What is Transformer?
A transformer is an electrical device which converts the alternating voltage (can be referred also as potential difference) from the input value to any other output value which can be lesser or greater than the input. Hence, we can have the Step-Up or Step-Down Transformer. Additionally, it is a static apparatus with no moving parts and it has no frequency change upon operation.

On this post, we will be dealing with the Step-Down Transformer and have further discussion of it.
What is Step-Down Transformer?
From the word itself, it allows the output voltage to be less than the input voltage. You may vary its output on the ratio of the number of turns. Furthermore, the secondary turns are less than the primary turns which obviously indicates step-down.

How to obtain the desired output by computation and principles
Let us take 220V as a primary voltage and get a 12V output. By this , we take 1000 turns on the primary winding and get the turns on the secondary to get 12V as an output.

The Equation would be --- VP/VS = NP/NS
where:
Vp = is the voltage of the primary winding (220V)
Vs= is the voltage of the secondary winding (12V)
Np = is the number of turns on the primary winding (1000turns)
Ns = is the number of turns on the secondary wnding

Hence we have; Ns = (VsNp)/Vp = (121000)/220 = 54.5 = 55 turns

This is how we can compute the step-down transformer.

Step-Down Transformer: How to make it Step-By-Step

Step 1: Prepare the Materials Needed

Magnetic Copper Wire
Iron Silicon Plates (E & I Plates)
Formwork or Plastic Bobbin
Waxed Paper or Paper Tape can also do
Screws and brackets
Connecting wires
